Fogarty, EDvance and Centre for Excellence of Explicit Teaching of Literacy
In 2023, we started our involvement in the Fogarty EDVance School Improvement Program.
The Fogarty EDvance School Improvement Program focuses on building the capacity of school leadership teams to make informed evidence-based decisions, strategically plan, and ultimately, improve student outcomes.
We were provided with high quality support to build leadership capability and increase the overall effectiveness of our school, through the unique three-year School Improvement Program, which brings together the best practices, resources and tools from education, business and philanthropy.
Due for completion at the end of 2025, the support from mentors and experts will see us continue our highly strategic vision of continual improvement for our school and students.
In 2023, we were also one of 20 schools selected to take part in the Centre for Excellence in the Explicit Teaching of Literacy. The program provided an opportunity for our 3 intern teachers and the principal to build, strengthen and develop their capacity to extend explicit literacy teaching practices through:
- an annual internship program in high-performing centre schools
- targeted professional learning from leading experts in the field of explicit instruction in literacy learning
- coaching, observation, and feedback from skilled coaches
- access to a range of practical explicit teaching resources.
We were mentored and supported by Challis Community Primary School where our intern teachers implemented explicit literacy teaching practices in their classrooms and across the school.
