This week sees the start of the Developmental Reading Groups (DRG) program which continues to demonstrate improvements in reading across the school.
The DRG program involves students from Year 1&2, Year 3&4 and Year 5&6 working in reading groups at the same time each morning alongside other students who are at the same level of developmental ability within their respective teaching block.
Students are grouped based upon standardised test results and teacher judgements, with smaller group sizes and added support provided to the lower ability DRG while upper ability students are provided with more challenging work.
Opportunities for moving students between groups are provided throughout the year to allow for student improvement and for logistical reasons (eg: group size).
Parents who would like to know more about the DRG program are invited to speak to their child’s teacher.
